CD sails believe in continuous research and testing, always looking how to improve the sails for handling and speed. In August 2024 the CD Flat sail has been improved to help improve the performance across the wind range.
At a reduced price point this is the perfect sail for the youngest and lighter sailors whether making their first steps in the Optimist Class or regatta racing.
With the design improvements they have changed the profile at the head and roach of the sail. The sail becomes easier to use and forgiving. Even releasing the main sheet, the sail will gain the speed without loosing the angle.
The CD Flat sail is made with 2.8 polykote Dacron from Contender. While the technical characteristics and durability of this sailcloth are the same as for 2.99 polykote Dacron, this material is 15 % less elastic in the diagonal direction. These material characteristics assure that even in conditions with strong wind, the sail will be able to maintain better its initial shape.
For Lightweight sailors, it means that it will be easier to manage the sail and keep the boat stable when the wind is increasing.
The geometry of the sail is developed to ensure maximum performance in all wind conditions. The shape and surface of the sail in combination with the position of the battens ensure that the sail is easy to trim, especially at the top part of the sail. The length and stiffness of battens are adapted to match perfectly the designed shape of the sail.
The tabling is precisely elaborated and adapted for various edges of the sail to maximize the performance.
